Ruth Crane Pottery Collection Catalog
Showcased Ruth Crane’s eclectic pottery collection as a catalog of the exhibition at the Goldstein Museum of Design.

CLIENT: Undergraduate work, Goldstein Museum of Design
ROLE: Editorial design, photography, production/bookbinding
The book was designed shortly after the start of the exhibit, and after completion it was displayed outside the gallery for the final month. The catalog is a place for the ceramics to live on, beyond its brief exhibition.
The layout, typefaces, and repetition of photos were base on my decision to emphasize Ruth Crane's personality, eclectic methods, and the time period that she gathered many of the pieces. Handwriting was used to support those aspects as well as to contrast the rigid type and relate to the handmade quality of ceramic art.
Spreads describing Ruth's story are interspersed between pages of the exhibition pieces.
As a special challenge, I was limited to only use 2 colors (plus black/white) on the cover and create a sense of depth. I decided to create a repeating pattern of Ruth Crane's name to demonstrate how she collects. The overlapping of her first and last name, along with the laser cutting create depth and the perspective makes each repeat look different, reflecting her eclectic style.
